The Course
Language: Indonesian
Level: Intermediate - Advanced (students should have completed
at least 180 class hours)
Units: 30 (only two, Topic 2 and 12, are displayed here)
Time per Lesson: One week (2-4 hours self-study plus 2-3 classroom
hours)
Total Time: Two semesters of 15 weeks each.
CD-ROM
All 30 topics inclusive audio files are included on the Student's
CD-ROM. The content of the CD-ROM is sufficient for self-study.
Each of the 30 units consists of 1. pre-reading activities, 2.
a reading or listening text with word list, 3. grammar explanations,
4. listening activities (with transcript), and 5. a set of interactive
exercises (multiple choice, cloze, matching, sentences jumbling,
text reconstruction, cross-words etc.) for the various activities
(reading, listening, and grammar). The texts are mostly taken from
the contemporary media but also includes advertisments, short stories,
and other reading materials. A broad range of themes is covered,
including cultural and religious practices (national holidays,
revival of Chinese culture, Javanese acetism, female circumcision),
personal relationship (cyber-love), family (working women), tourism
(visiting Puncak Pass, agro-tourism), environmental issues (endangered
species, illegal logging, the 2004 Tsunami, destruction of mangrove
forests), social issues (in rural and urban communities), literature
(live and work of Pramoedya Ananta Toer), health (alternative medicine),
and practical advise (how to rent a house in Indonesia). Not all
texts are "serious" but there are also a number of lightweight
and humorous texts.
Student's Book & Audio CD
The Student's Book cum Audio CD contains essentially the same
information as the CD-ROM plus additional photographs and drawings
to be used in the pre- and post-reading classes.
Teacher's Book
The Teacher's Book contains: 1. Goals and Objectives of each course
unit. 2. a range of various activities for the pre- and post-reading
classes including games, brain storming, vocabular building, role
plays, discussions, debates, etc. 3. Student's Worksheets to be
used by students in-class, 4. additional visual aids (drawings
and photographs), 5. PowerPoint presentations for selected topics.
Teacher's
CD
The teacher's CD contains additional audio recordings for in-class
use.
